Watch this space for all the major upcoming sporting events in Rome. Italy's national sport is of course, football (that's soccer to you Americans) and this town is home to not one but two top teams - AS Roma and SS Lazio. In addition, being the capital city, most of the national team's home games are played here at the Stadio Olimpico. There's also the Flaminio Stadium, home to Italy's national rugby team.

Serie A: This year’s football season is all over now, with Jose Mourinho’s Internazionale crowned Champions for the fourth successive year. The eternal city’s two teams, AS Roma and SS Lazio, finished 6th and 10th respectively, with Lazio taking this year’s Cup. That means that both teams will be competing in next year’s Europa (formerly UEFA) Cup – so European football returns to the capital once again!
The next domestic season begins in August, but there’s a possibility of seeing some Europa Cup qualifiers before then – watch this space!
Remember, if you’d like to catch a Serie A match while you’re here in Rome, contact your hotel concierge in advance, but bear in mind, the bigger the game, the harder it will be to come by tickets.
Champions League: Speaking of European football, football fans will know that the 2008-9 season Championship Final was held here on May 27th, with Barcelona conquering the reigning champions Manchester Utd in a 2-0 victory.
National Side: There are no qualifiers being played this month for the World Cup.
Italy’s next competitive home fixture is next season on 9th September, when they hope to overcome Bulgaria in their quest to defend their status as World Cup holders.
